The Building

135 East 79th Street is a masterful expression of rigorous craftsmanship not seen on the Upper East Side in almost a century. The façade is comprised of custom-pigmented hand-laid Indiana limestone and brick; chat-sawn finish gives natural texture to the limestone coining. Flanking the double-height arched entrance are matching 22-foot tall espaliered pear tree sculptures hand-modeled by William Sofield. The street-level window grilles are antiques made by the firm that fabricated the gates for Buckingham Palace.
