One of the few major office projects underway in the city, 51 Astor Place is now nearing its final height. The building will only rise 12 floors, but it has an enormous footprint, and will contain roughly 400,000 square feet of space. Cladding is now also beginning at the structure’s base. The project’s architect is Fumihiko Maki, who also designed 150 Greenwich Street (Four World Trade Center). The two projects are quite similar in their design, if you disregard the height difference.
