Construction Update: 400 Park Avenue South

Christian de Portzamparc’s 400 Park Avenue South is still far from completion, but the latest photos from YIMBY readers Dave & Ava show the foundation is well underway. With construction moving at a rapid pace, the site should be above ground-level by the summerthat is, if the seemingly endless snowstorms stop.

Besides the work below groundthe basin for the basement swimming pool is actually visible at the momentmock-ups of the tower’s facade have also been developed. The cladding looks stunning, and its reflection is exceptionally crisp. Once finished, the 476-foot residential building will prove that glass skyscrapers don’t have to be boring.
Portzamparc has consistently shown that skyscrapers of glass and metal can be made to look organic, original, and different from one another. Though it will rise shy of 500 feet, 400 Park Avenue South will stillin all likelihoodbe an icon.
