Construction Update: Midtown Rising, From a Fantastic View

One57, 250 West 55th, and 1715 Broadway have each made an impact on the skyline when viewing from the West Side. A (relatively) distant perspective shows just how close all of the projects are, and the impact of construction has already been dramatic even though 1715 Broadway and One57 have not reached their final heights. The cladding on 250 West 55th is most impressive during the sunlight, and the building makes a solid but bland addition to the skyline.

Most remarkable is that two other projects that are close to Sixth Avenue (the International Gem Tower and the new Hyatt, both in the mid 40’s) are completely invisible, despite the fact that both towers are over 500 feet tall. Midtown’s sheer density is still completely unrivaled, although parts of Hong Kong come close to comparing.

Gotham West is also starting to make an impact, although the building is close to its final height. The tower complements the developments along 42nd Street nicely, and is definitely a welcome addition to a block formerly dominated by a gas station. Hopefully the gas station is the next to go under the wrecking ball.
