Cladding has finally begun on the base of 1715 Broadway, which will soon be home to two Marriott Hotels. The tower–the tallest all-hotel building in New York City–dominates its other new neighbors, 237 West 54th Street and 250 West 55th. 1715 Broadway is scheduled to open in 2014.
Kaufman’s new Hilton-brand hotel at 237 West 54th Street is also coming along, and there are finally signs of the facade. Presumably the ashy-gray blocks now going in along the building’s southern side will be painted with something to make them less grungy looking. However 237 West 54th turns out looking–which probably won’t be good–it will be thoroughly dominated by both of its new neighbors.
No major changes are apparent at 250 West 55th, and the exterior has been more or less finished for several months now. There hasn’t been any word on potential retail tenants for the building’s podium, but prospects should improve as construction on all of the block’s projects comes to a close.
2011 – 2013 were the years when this city block was transformed.
