Construction Update: The Baccarat Tower

The Baccarat TowerThe Baccarat Tower

The SOM-designed Baccarat Tower, located at 20 West 53rd Street, is now up to its 30th floor. The building will eventually rise 46 stories and 610 feet, so construction is well past the halfway point; even at over 600 feet in height, the tower will only be mid-sized by Manhattan standards.

Glass is now rising simultaneously with the superstructure, and the result is more promising than the first glimpse of the facade would have indicated. The cladding offers crisp reflections – good and bad in this case, as many of the Baccarat Tower’s neighbors aren’t exactly attractive – but from vantage points where the building reflects the sky, the glass appears to be on-par with that of 150 Greenwich Street in terms of coloring and quality.

The Baccarat Tower will hold a hotel on lower floors and residences above, and DOB permits indicate the skyscraper will offer 70 condominium units. The hotel will be run by Starwood, and the entire project is expected to open at the end of 2014.
