Excavation at 50 Hudson Yards is nearing completion, and thanks to an aerial by Archartdescon, we can see that foundation work has also now commenced. Construction is advancing with incredible speed, and most of the site has been cleared since YIMBY’s last report in November. The fast-paced construction of the SOM-designed 35 Hudson Yards is about to reach the roof. A year and a half ago, YIMBY reported on the building reaching the fourth floor. Now, the tower is tantalizingly close to its final, 71st story. The structure appears to have reached supertall heights, thanks to a two-story steel girder installed this week. Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group are responsible for the development, which is Manhattan’s third new residential supertall of 2018.

Supertall office towers are nearing a dime a dozen in Hudson Yards, with 30 Hudson Yards already passing the 984-foot mark, and 1 Manhattan West, The Spiral, and 50 Hudson Yards set to eclipse it over the next few years. While most of the neighborhood’s residential towers have been a few steps behind their larger companions along 57th Street, the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed 35 Hudson Yards will be the first to pass the threshold. Now, the building has passed the halfway mark, and as its exterior installation has also progressed, the future icon is quickly gaining prominence on the Midtown West skyline.
