One of the latest residential buildings to begin construction near the Hudson Yards project is the Galerie 515. Significant progress has been made on the future mid-rise, which per the latest permits will have 165 units and rise 12 floors, or 120 feet. Not much information has come online since the site stalled out during the recession, but these renderings from the Galerie 515 website show the completed project, which will apparently feature a boutique hotel in addition to condominiums.
The project’s architect of record is Costas Kondylis, and the eventual building doesn’t look too bad. The mix of facade materials is an improvement over much of the firm’s typical work, and the building looks like it will be successfully integrated into the street-scape. Setbacks only occur past the eighth floor, which is a major improvement in a neighborhood increasingly dominated by the terrible creations of Gene Kaufman.
