Avi Baranes has filed applications for a four-story, two-unit mixed-use building at 352 Willis Avenue, in Mott Haven, six blocks from the 6 train’s stop at 3rd Avenue – 138th Street. The building will measure just 4,223 square feet, and will include 1,425 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Above, full-floor residential units will average 1,400 square feet, indicative of condos, which would be big news for this part of the Bronx. Long Island-based Shahriar Afshari is the architect of record, and the corner lot comes vacant.

  1. this address used to be the office of the Young Lords Party, 1970-1976. The Young Lords made many constructive contributions that helped change living conditions for working class people. They also advocated and struggled to have a new Bronx hospital built.
US History doesn’t seem to comfort or value its own accomplishments.. there isn’t even a plaque at 352 Willis Avenue to define
    the communities own accomplishments.

  2. Thank you William for pointing this out! Agree that we need to preserve and teach the histories of peoples’ struggles in our communities and will put the word out to see if folks have ideas on how to honor and uplift the work of the YLP at this location! For those that want to learn more about YLP, check out great documentary by YLP member Iris Morales “Palante Siempre Palante”.
