Renderings Surface for Central Park Tower, 217 West 57th Street

YIMBY has chronicled the evolution of 217 West 57th Street, aka Nordstrom Tower and officially dubbed Central Park Tower, since it was clearing hurdles for the approval of its cantilever. Now that the building has begun rising, renderings from Extell have finally started leaking online, this time courtesy of EB-5 materials that surfaced on the YIMBY forums. The images show the tower is identical to renderings created in-house by YIMBY previously, and while they confirm the supertall has lost its spire, it will still become the tallest building by roof height on the continent, reaching 1,550 feet tall, and having a marketing floor count of 131.

Construction Wrapping on First 53-Story, 538-Unit Journal Squared Tower, 605 Pavonia Avenue, Jersey City

Kushner Real Estate Group’s 53-story, 538-unit mixed-use building at 605 Pavonia Avenue, in the Journal Square section of Jersey City, is now fully clad. The tower’s construction crane has been removed, as seen in a photo posted on Instagram by the owners via the YIMBY Forums. The rental tower contains a very large parking garage as well as retail space. It’s the first of three towers in the Journal Squared mega-development, which includes additional 60- and 70-story sibling towers. The entire development will boast 1,838 residential units and 36,000 square feet of retail space. As for this first completed tower, which topped out in December of 2015, occupancy is expected by the end of this year. HWKN and Handel Architects are responsible for the design. The complex will be located a stone’s throw away from the neighborhood’s PATH station.

Demolition Progresses at Site of One Vanderbilt, 67-Story, 1.73-Million-Square-Foot Office Tower in Midtown East

Demolition has progressed significantly on the cluster of pre-war commercial buildings on the block bound by East 42nd and 43rd streets and Madison and Vanderbilt avenues, directly west of Grand Central Terminal in Midtown East. The existing structures are only a few more months from being removed, as seen in the photos by ILNY posted to the YIMBY Forums. In their place will rise a 67-story, 1,514-foot-tall office tower called One Vanderbilt, being developed by SL Green Realty Corporation and designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The tower will encompass 1,732,955 square feet of space, of which 1,295,140 square feet is designated as commercial.

Foundation Work Underway At Seven-Story, 160-Unit Mixed-Use Project At 500 & 524 East 14th Street, East Village

Foundation work is well underway at the site of Extell Development’s seven-story, 160-unit mixed-use development at 500 East 14th Street and 524 East 14th Street, in the East Village. Rebar can now be seen sprouting from the ground, as seen in photos in a EV Grieve update. Once complete, a seven-story, 106-unit building, encompassing 181,713 square feet, will be situated on the corner of Avenue A. A seven-story, 54-unit mixed-use building, measuring 71,719 square feet, will stand down the street at 524 East 14th Street. Across both, there will be 45,407 square feet of commercial-retail space on the ground and cellar levels. The apartments above should average 1,215 square feet apiece, which suggests condominiums are in the works.
