Another new addition to Morrisania, in The Bronx, is just months away from completion, at Melrose Commons North Site C, also known as Elton Crossing. YIMBY last reported on the building in September of 2014, when renderings were revealed. Briarwood Organization and Phipps Houses are responsible for development.

The 118-foot tall building will yield 220,000 square feet, with 195,700 square feet for 199 units of mixed affordable housing, and 8,400 square feet of ground-floor retail.

There will also be a fitness area with locker rooms and showers on the ground-floor, as well as a laundry room, rooftop urban agricultural garden, and community area with kitchen space.

Magnusson Architecture and Planning are responsible for the design. From YIMBY’s prior update, the architects described the development as follows:

The project is comprised of two connected buildings, an affordable family building and a supportive housing building for low-income veterans, and together, provides 263 units of housing. The buildings work together to create a landscaped courtyard with plenty of daylight entering through the generous cut in the height elevation of the south-facing part of the family building.

Opening is expected by early 2018. As of now, the retail space is leasing through Phipps Houses.
