Nehalkumar Gandhi, doing business as North Bergen, N.J.-based Ratan Realty, has filed applications for a five-story, 72-key hotel at 1122 Southern Boulevard, in the West Bronx’s Longwood section. The structure will encompass 24,826 square feet. The hotel rooms will be located on the cellar through fifth floors, and guest amenities include laundry facilities, a breakfast area, a fitness center, storage space for two bikes, and 10 off-street parking spots. Michael Kang’s Flushing-based architectural firm is the architect of record. The 100-foot-wide, 10,000-square-foot property is currently occupied by a single-story warehouse. Demolition permits were filed in December. The site is located three blocks from the Simpson Street stop on the 2 and 5 trains. The developer also has plans for two other hotel projects in the Bronx, one at 150 East 185th Street and another 1164 Wheeler Avenue.

As long as he plans to run them as real hotels and not turn them into homeless shelters. The Bronx is “under-hotelled” for its size and population. Not too far from there there is a Super 8 which captures “tourists on a budget” that are willing to take the longer train rides downtown for the lower room rates. Also though most would w shocked to know – but people in the area do get visitors from out of town who need budget hotels to stay in.
I agree with you 100%. Real hotels or slum hotels? I have a 60×100 ft lot next to me on Intervale ave. I still dont know what will become of what was a jewish synagogue. Cant get no answer from the supposed to be owner.
Yeah.. As I said – there is a “legit” Super 8 up the block… So I hope this one will function in like manner and hopefully both remain that way. With 2 functioning hotels it would provide impetus for more commercial development on that strip.
I get what you mean. It’s sad to see those old synagogue buildings sit there when the architecture is so nice. Many in the Grand Concourse ended up becoming churches.
