YIMBY reported on the demolition of the temporary WTC PATH station last August, and we revealed renderings for the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center last September. The complexity of the site within the new World Trade Center means that several additional steps must be completed before work can begin on the actual PAC, but now, construction has begun on the Vehicle Security Center, which will sit directly underneath the PAC.

The photos come from Earthcam’s World Trade Center station, which has offered excellent updates on the gradual transformation of the site. Steel plating began arriving a few weeks ago, and construction has now begun, with the first columns rising for the Vehicle Security Center.

The diagram of the site shows the location of the VSC in relation to the Performing Arts Center, and makes obvious why the former must be finished before the latter can start to rise.

Joshua Prince-Ramus of REX is designing the project, which will be the crowning cultural centerpiece of the new World Trade Center complex. There will be three theaters within the project, each containing seating for 499, 250, and 99 people, respectively.

Completion is expected by 2020, and the actual Performing Arts Center should begin construction in another year or so.

I love & look twin pools in silence with Complex also the latest. (Thank you)

  2. This is such a long time coming, already 16 years since 9/11.

  3. It only took 22+ years (and $6.2B)to replace the earthquake damaged eastern span of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge.
