YIMBY has an update on construction for 207 West 79th Street, a 13-story residential building on the Upper West Side. Our last report on the site’s progress in September of 2016 showed construction had just reached the seventh floor, with no façade installation underway. The site is just an Avenue away from the American Natural History Museum, and two Avenues away from Central Park. There is close access to the 1, 2, A, B, and C trains by foot.
Morris Adjmi Architects is responsible for the design. The lower stories are decorated with a smooth-faced rustication, while the upper floors are covered with masonry and terra-cotta paneling in a style reminiscent of Art-Nouveau. At the very top of the building is an Art Deco-inspired cornice.
Building permits show the 158-foot tall structure will yield 71,600 square feet, with 5,200 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. The units above will range from two- to five-bedrooms, i.e. half- to full-floor residencies, averaging 2,890 square feet apiece, indicating spacious condominiums.
