An anonymous Bronx-based LLC has filed applications to redevelop the severely dilapidated three-story commercial structure at 15-20 Central Avenue, in Far Rockaway, into a five-story school building. The redevelopment will incorporate the stand-alone four-story structure that exists behind the three-story building. The project will encompass 75,440 square feet and will rise 62 feet above street level. The school, which will likely be private, will have a gymnasium, cafeteria, administrative offices, classrooms, and conference rooms. Jamaica-based A&I Developers Inc. has filed applications for a pair of three-story, five-unit residential buildings at 21-17 and 21-19 Birdsall Avenue in Far Rockaway. The buildings will measure 5,993 square feet each and, between them, the total of 10 residential units should average 903 square feet apiece, indicative of family-sized apartments. The New York City Department of Design and Construction (DDC) has filed applications for a new two-story, 31,779-square-foot Queens Library at Far Rockaway. The new building will be built on the site of the existing, single-story library branch, at 16-37 Central Avenue. The facility will feature a circulation and information center, meeting rooms, a business center, and individual children, teen, and adult sections. Snøhetta will be designing the project. The 25,877-square-foot site is located at the corner of Mott Avenue, three blocks from the Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue stop on the A train. Demolition permits have not been filed for the existing library.
