Yesterday, YIMBY featured a first glimpse at the plans for 76 8th Avenue, on the corner of 14th Street, at the crossroads of the Meatpacking District and the West Village. Today, we have the full rendering for the project, designed by Gene Kaufman, which will dramatically improve a corner that has long been under-built.
The Naftali Group has been working on several substantial new developments over the past few years, and two of the more prominent buildings are almost across the street from each other, at 210 West 77th Street, and at 221 West 77th Street, in the heart of the Upper West Side. YIMBY caught up with Miki Naftali at 210 West 77th Street to discuss how the firm’s other projects are coming along, how they managed to acquire two development sites that avoid the red tape that chokes so much of the Upper West Side, and the state of the market in general.

2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the New York City landmarks law. There were occasions to celebrate, and the Landmarks Preservation Commission designated six individual landmarks and four historic districts. 2016 was considerably busier for the commission. It designated 40 individual landmarks and two historic districts, including 12 new Midtown East landmarks and 26 sites from its backlog. Here are all of them, for you to take in as the year comes to a close.
New York City now has 140 historic districts across its five boroughs. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted, unanimously, to designate the Sullivan-Thompson Historic District. The designation completes preservation of the South Village.
