Construction on the Xavier High School redevelopment at 31 West 15th Street has begun in earnest, with the future 299-foot tall mixed-use tower now at its first floor. The building will house Xavier High School in its first 6 floors, and 57 apartments in the units above the school. The height figure from the DOB diverges from the number given by DNA Info, but perhaps there has been a design change since 2011.
The project should make a mark on the neighborhood given how short buildings in the vicinity are, although it’s unfortunate renderings are still unavailable. This post from A Fine Blog shows construction photos from almost a month ago, with the building’s ground floor all that’s been built since late September. Hopefully things begin to speed up as the building continues to rise.
