YIMBY reader Dave Allen sent in new photos of 218 West 50th Street, which will be the home of New York’s first CitizenM Hotel. The water towers atop the structure will be covered by an enormous box, which will serve as a rather large four-sided billboard. The new building may not be gorgeous, but at least it’s not a typical Kaufman or Poon.
Construction is also wrapping up at 533 West 52nd Street, aka the Clinton Commons, which seemed to go up overnight. The affordable development has a total of 96 units, and the architect is SLCE. The final product conforms to the street-wall and has a standard brick facade—it’s simple and benign filler. Still, Clinton Commons did come out better looking than the renderings, which is a rare occurrence.
