The Baccarat Hotel is moving upwards, and the SOM-designed tower has passed its first setback. Floor-plates for the tower get smaller as it ascends, so construction should speed up—though the tower is already at its twentieth floor, it will eventually rise 46 stories and 610 feet.
Since the last update—from mid-March—the tower has risen at the rate of two floors per week, which is very impressive. If the current speed of construction can be extrapolated, the Baccarat Hotel’s superstructure should be completed by the end of summer. With a subdued yet elegant design, it’s a shame the tower’s presence on the skyline will be so minimal—given its location in the depths of Midtown’s canyons, it will be barely visible.
