45-56 Pearson Street in Long Island City is almost complete – the building has gone up seemingly unnoticed, though the project did go through some changes before construction began. Original plans were for a 20-story tower, but evidently those fell through.
The new building stands 15 floors and has 197 units, and permits indicate the architect is SLCE. On-site signage notes Congress Builders LLC as the owner.
Architecturally, the structure is perfectly adequate; the mix of brick with casement windows is a hard to do wrong by, though the exposed HVAC units are an eyesore. At fifteen floors, it’s a solid mid-rise addition to the neighborhood and the skyline, and will soon be joined by many neighbors – including the 40+ story towers replacing 5Pointz.
Despite the lack of a posted completion date, opening day should be just around the corner.
