The four tenement buildings spanning 148-154 Rivington Street, on the Lower East Side, are set to be redeveloped into a residential property, according to Curbed. The existing buildings, formerly Streit’s Matzo Factory, total roughly 50,000 square feet, and were picked up earlier this year for $30.5 million by Cogswell Realty.
The developer wants to acquire 14,000 square feet of air rights to develop a seven-story structure, but will settle for a six-story building if the deal doesn’t happen by September. It’s unknown if the buildings will be converted or demolished, but Gluck+ appears to be designing. Retail space is planned on the ground floor.
