Staten Island-based WB Development has filed applications for a four-story, seven-unit residential building at 183 Devoe Street, in central Williamsburg. The project will measure 6,407 square feet and its residential units should average 657 square feet apiece, indicative of rental apartments. The structure will be topped by a roof deck. Nicholas Scire-Chianetta’s Brooklyn-based NSC Architecture is the architect of record. The 23-foot-wide, 2,300-square-foot property is currently occupied by a two-story townhouse. Demolition permits haven’t been filed. The Graham Avenue stop on the L train is located around the block.

Second plan is four-story (half of first plan), and change location to build rental apartments.
I like to walk down that block on my way to my doctor. I think my walk will be just the tiniest bit less pleasant now. But you can’t stop progress, right? The past must die, as must I. Suicide is painless.
I wonder who rents these small one bedroom units? They are not big enough for a family of 3 or more. I have seen some units were both bedroom and livingroom are 8ft wide. Are the homeless or shelter residents placed there? Rooms are smaller than college dorms. Im not sure if prison cells are bigger. Im imagining the rent to be $1400 to $1700. Who will pay that amount?
By the way, fun fact for those interested in prehistoric life: We natives pronounce the name of the street “De-VOO,” not “De-voh,” just as we pronounce Lorimer Street “Lahr-imer.” What idiots we are! Don’t worry, we’ll be dead soon.
