Construction of the 29-story hotel at 461 West 34th Street has long been topped-out, and now the façade is fully complete, with interior work also nearing the finish line. Marx Development Group is responsible for the development. Imminently, the 312-foot-tall structure will add 399 hotel rooms to the Hudson Yards neighborhood, under the Courtyard Hotel brand. On the street level, a retail space will help activate the corner location. The spot is soon to be in extreme demand, as it serves the burgeoning Hudson Yards office and housing markets.

DSM Design Group is the architect, with the actual design looking remarkably similar to the renderings. The curtain wall façade is not of particular interest, with an acceptable look, though it is definitely not as creatively inspired as rest of the Hudson Yards neighborhood.

Nevertheless, the multitude of eccentrically-designed hotels in the Mid-30s immediately to the northeast of 461 West 34th Street mean that the neighborhood has certainly dodged a bullet, even if the result isn’t actually anything that special.

Marx was also in the news for getting an $88 million construction loan for yet another hotel in the Hudson Yards neighborhood. YIMBY reported on permits being filed for the 531-key hotel at 450 11th Avenue this July. Combined, the company will be adding 930 hotel rooms to the area.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: It’s unmistakable. Beautiful tower.

Can we try not to confuse mediocre with acceptable?

  3. It’s attractive because it isn’t a Gene Kaufman design.

  4. I would call this building inoffensive but not necessarily attractive.

  5. I like it.
