Construction has topped out at 1325 Jerome Avenue, a new affordable housing project in the Mount Eden section of The Bronx. The development is the latest endeavor from The Doe Fund and was completed in collaboration by the GF55 design studio.

When complete, the 15-story building will contain 187,000 square feet of residential area including a mix of both affordable and supportive housing units. Residential floor plans will range from studios up to three-bedroom units. Residential amenities include a large community room, a landscaped outdoor terrace, laundry facilities, a computer room, and bike storage.

The portion of units reserved for the supportive housing units are financed in part through a New York State Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative award. The remaining units will be reserved for low-income households at 37 to 57 percent area median income.

The building will also include 26,000 square feet of lower-level retail space and on-site offices from supportive housing staff.

“Our newest building represents The Doe Fund’s sustained commitment to providing the most vulnerable New Yorkers with safe and dignified homes,” said George McDonald, founder and president of The Doe Fund. “Our housing portfolio is meant to improve both the quality of life for the individuals and families who are our tenants, as well as the surrounding communities in The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.”

The Doe Fund will eventually coordinate a housing lottery to identify prospective tenants, a portion of whom will be required to already reside in the area.
