Improvements to a 1.7-mile stretch of State Route 112 in Suffolk County, Long Island are now complete. The $32.7 million project spans from Medford to Coram and includes wider travel lanes, new turning lanes at key intersections, pull-off areas for buses, new drains for stormwater runoff, and a landscaped median. Additional improvements include dedicated bike lanes in both directions, new sidewalks, curb ramps, reflective pavement markings, and crossing signals to enhance safety for pedestrians.

“As we continue to recover from the impacts of COVID-19 and our economy strengthens, it’s imperative that we keep investing in a transportation network prepared to meet the demands of the 21st century,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Projects like this demonstrate our commitment to giving communities in Suffolk and across the state the roads that can move people and goods efficiently and safely for years to come.”

The newly completed work builds on the success of earlier rehabilitation projects on an adjacent portion of State Route 112 completed in 2015 and 2017. Together, the projects have modernized more than three miles roadway across Long Island from Port Jefferson on the Long Island Sound to Patchogue on the Great South Bay.

“Route 112 from Granny Road to the Long Island Expressway is one of the busiest stretches of roadway in the Town of Brookhaven,” said Brookhaven town supervisor Ed Romaine. “By completing this project, the state has transformed a congested stretch of roadway into one that is safer for vehicle traffic, bicycle riders, and pedestrians to navigate. I thank the New York State Department of Transportation for their commitment to traffic safety and making Route 112 improvements a top priority.”

$32.7 million for a 1.7 mile stretch of repaving. Perhaps Gov Hochul could bring back that corruption commission Cuomo had to shut down.

  2. With out a doubt crazy, plus we didn’t need pretty flowers and trees in the median make more lanes or a dedicated turning lane instead. Or here’s a hint extend 2 lanes from expressway north to Coram to make traffic flow smoother.

  3. I’m soooo glad that we have bicycle lanes going each way instead of an extra lane for cars…. Overall another terrible job that took forever to complete and now takes more time to travel from point A to Point B.

Obviously nobody that uses this road gave any input into the changes made. Maybe bicycle lanes should be put on the LIE next…

  4. 32.7 million for 1.7 mile. But they forgot about mile 1.8 where you enter the expressway full of potholes left from the construction trucks . Waste of money!!!!!.
