Permits have been filed for a 26-story mixed-use building at 1440 Amsterdam Avenue in West Harlem, Manhattan. Located between West 129th Street and West 133rd Street, the lot is within walking distance of 125th Street subway station, serviced by the 1 train. Yiannes Einhorn of Grid Group under the Built By Grid LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

The proposed 283-foot-tall development will yield 1,708,708 square feet, with 1,661,488 square feet designated for residential space, 36,313 square feet for community facility space, and 10,907 square feet for commercial space. The concrete-based structure will have 393 residences, a cellar, and 199 enclosed parking spaces.

The Gluck Architectural Collaborative is listed as the architect of record.

Demolition permits will likely not be needed as the lot is vacant. An estimated completion date has not been announced.

  1. That’s a big building.

  2. 1.7M Sq ft!?

  3. This has to be a typo. 4,227 square feet per apartment? Usually YIMBY would say this will be condos based on the square footage.

  4. Finally something there.

  5. Is the built on the grounds of a NYCHA project?

    • Yes, unless what we thought were NYCHA grounds for years were actually a vacant tax lot with no demand to develop.

  6. They better have tons of security as the building is completely surrounded by NYCHA projects.

  7. So apparently the huge square footage figure stated in this article is the size of the entire Manhattanville Houses housing project. Excellent journalism there…

  10. This is the space where the grocery store burned down. It’s absurd that it sat vacant for so long. Not sure who is to blame. The lot owner? The city’s approval process? Was the insurance company slow to pay out? Who knows… but in a city so starved for housing it’s crazy that it’s taken so long.

  11. PS – note that the grocery store burned down in 2013.
