Rockefeller University Expansion [Crain’s New York]: Rockefeller University has been donated $150 million in construction funding to build “four new buildings” over a stretch of FDR Drive between East 64th and 68th Streets, on the Upper East Side. The expansion includes “a $285 million, two-story flagship building,” and three other smaller university buildings; Rafael Viñoly Architects is designing.
1918 1st Avenue [Commercial Observer]: The City is close to granting developer SKA Marin the lease to the 114,463 square-foot building at 1918 1st Avenue, in East Harlem. Plans include the existing building’s redevelopment with the addition of 13 floors for a 202-unit, 173,632 square-foot final product. Completion is expected “in December 2016.”
45 Great Jones Street [EV Grieve]: The seven-story, five-unit residential building built up from an existing two-story structure at 45 Great Jones Street, in NoHo, has topped out. Façade installation is currently underway, and the building is anticipated for “a spring 2015 occupancy.” Kim Wendell Design is the head architect on the project.
MTA November Report [Pedestrian Observation]: The MTA Transportation Reinvention Commission has released their November report that is said to boast ‘reinvention,’ but details of the study reveal “the proposals are [of] small scale,” and focus remains not on construction costs, but “on how to raise money.” In addition, the report neglects the ideals of a budget that respects maintenance costs and long term investment.
672 Halsey Street [Brownstoner]: Concrete has topped-out at 672 Halsey Street — in Bedford-Stuyvesant — where a four-story, seven-unit residential building is currently under construction. Façade installation is likely imminent, and completion is anticipated for Fall 2015.
92-33 168th Street [DNAinfo New York]: The Economic Development Corporation will issue “request for proposals” regarding the development of a 45,000 square-foot site located at 92-33 168th Street, in Jamaica. The site “can accommodate about 300 apartments and retail space,” and the existing two-story garage structure must first be demolished.
