Back in August, YIMBY reported on permits for 35-08 146th Street, a planned 15-story residential building with community facilities on the ground floor. Now we have renderings of the project, which would rise just east of Flushing in an under-the-radar Queens neighborhood called Murray Hill.
The Department of Buildings just approved work permits for the 163-foot-tall development between 35th Avenue and Northern Boulevard. Flushing-based W&L Group, headed by Thomas Wang, has already begun demolishing six homes to make way for the sizable tower. The latest permits detail plans for 57 apartments, stacked on top of an 11,800-square-foot school.
Those 57 units will be spread across 54,962 square feet of residential space, creating average units of 964 square feet. Apartments will begin on the second floor, and each floor will hold five units until the top three floors, which will host two big triplex penthouses.
There will also be 34 parking spots distributed between the cellar and first floor, along with 35 bike storage spaces.
My Architect PC – also headquartered in Flushing – is responsible for the design. It has a glassy, modern look we’ve come to expect from new architecture in and around Flushing, with a residential tower on top of a broad base filled with community facilities.
W&L picked up the 16,250-square-foot development site for a combined $10,332,000 in several separate purchases last year.
Next door on Northern Boulevard, two other large developments with a combination of apartments, retail, and medical offices are underway. First, a Tetris-like complex is headed to 144-74 Northern Boulevard, between 146th Street and Parsons Boulevard. Then developer Yin C. Hu plans to erect an 11-story building at 141-26 Northern Boulevard, a block closer to downtown Flushing.
