A Citibank on a tony stretch of Madison Avenue on the Upper East Side is going to grow six stories and get a handful of apartments.
Alteration plans were filed earlier this week to expand the two-story commercial building at 1042 Madison Avenue, between 79th and 80th streets. The roof line would rise from 26 to 80 feet, and the building would triple in size. The bank will remain in a 2,000-square-foot retail space on the ground floor, and four large apartments would be stacked on top.
Those four apartments would be spread across 14,932 square feet of residential space, for average units measuring an impressive 3,733 square feet. Since this site is only a block from Central Park and the Met, we have no doubt these will be expensive condos. The fifth-floor unit would be a duplex, and a duplex would occupy the seventh and eighth floors as well. There will also be a roof deck, but the plans don’t indicate whether it’ll be shared or exclusive to one tenant.
Steven Montague, of JSRE LLC, is the developer, and Joseph Pell Lombardi and Associates are the architects.
