Permits have been filed for a 12-story community facility building at 460 West 41st Street in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. The project was filed by Covenant House, a nonprofit dedicated to providing shelter to homeless children and teenagers. This project will replace a smaller, eight-story community facility for Covenant House.
The development is happening after the non-profit sold a portion of its property to Gotham Organization for $78 million. The site is located four blocks from the 42nd Street subway station, serviced by the A and E trains, and connected to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
The 164-foot tall structure will yield 80,290 square feet, with 53,053 square feet dedicated to community facility spaces. 60 units will be created, averaging 884 square feet apiece, indicating shared rooms. The building will include terraces, laundry, a cafeteria, courtyard, several offices, RA desks on each floor, and a fitness center below ground.
The newly-named FXCollaborative will be responsible for the designs.
Demolition permits were filed for the existing structures in May 2018.

Please pardon me for using your space: In the same time on report, but in the new situation on details. (Hello YIMBY)
It’s very good that Covenant House is expanding. Can’t help but think, though, that the best use for this site would be expanding the bus terminal.
