Construction is moving along on the Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center. The future 130-foot-tall, marbled-cladded building is designed by Rex Architecture and developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). The site is located in the Financial District at the foot of One World Trade Center and Seven World Trade Center. The 9/11 Memorial is to the south of the property, while the plot of Two World Trade Center, aka 200 Greenwich Street, is found to the east across Greenwich Street.

Almost all the work so far on the performing arts center has been subterranean. The formation of the circular ramp made from a number of steel components and rebar must be completed before work on the main bulk of the building can commence. Additional rebar and metal decking are continuing to be set in place along the western section of the property. At the moment, there are several ends of steel columns sticking out from the ground level. This is where adjoining steel beams will be attached and support the angled box shape of the structure.

Comparing the two photos reveals the extent of below-ground work that has been completed. The Vehicle Security Center on the opposite end of the 16-acre site has a similar spiraling ramp and took an equally lengthy time before work was able to begin on Liberty Park, which sits on top of the entrance and exit to the ramp.

This will improve the context of the stand-alone One World building and add some contrast to all the new glass towers.
But marble clad? Haven’t we learned our lesson about cladding buildings in marble with temperate climates?
It took 18 years to get there, and not done yet.
Honestly I forgot this was happening.
What on earth are you complaining about? That they didn’t start planning a performing arts center the day after the towers fell? The current design didn’t even come out until 2014.
2021? The Port Authority? Yeah, like that’s gonna happen. Where I live I’ve watched entire buildings go up and become occupied while a PA project goes on and on and on. And once it’s completed …there will still be plenty of problems from poor planning and oversight.
Sorry, I lost interest when NYNJPA decided to tear down Radio Row so the industry could move to California.
Now a Tech hub is needed so all our beautiful housing stock can be upgraded o more expensive housing.
