The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will again review proposals to construct a new seasonal venue space on the Fulton Ferry Landing Pier in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The project was originally proposed at a hearing in April 2019, where LPC expressed concerns that the building would obstruct views of the surrounding historic waterfront and downtown Manhattan. The design team, led by Starling Architecture, was also asked to replace the white exterior elements with with brown and other dark colors.

In response, Starling Architecture has reduced the overall massing of the structure to preserve existing sightlines from the pier. This includes slimmer structural supports, the removal of the 11-foot-tall hydraulic window walls and roof system, and a new exterior color scheme with green, yellow, and white materials.
The new renderings illustrate a mostly open structure with a retractable fabric awning, central bar, and peripheral seating within the boundaries of the venue. An existing structure referred to as the hose shed sits immediately behind the venue and would house the venue’s kitchen and electrical systems.
Last year, the project team anticipated approvals from LPC and expected the venue to debut summer 2019. At this time, the team has not released a new construction schedule to the public.

Because it’s in an iconic location and was permanent enough to require LPC review. I for one am glad that this project was highlighted, very interesting.
