Tenants are expected to begin moving in this week at 1325 Jerome Avenue, a new affordable and supportive housing building in The Bronx’s Mount Eden. The Doe Fund has received a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy for its largest residential development, which will serve the formerly homeless and local individuals and families from the NYCHA waitlist.
“As New York City bounces back from the pandemic, we must ensure that the recovery is shared by everyone,” said John McDonald, executive vice president of real estate at The Doe Fund. “We are thrilled to be leading the way on just that by delivering 255 critically needed affordable homes to The Bronx. Projects like these are essential to make a difference in our city’s notorious housing crisis and serve those among us most in need.”
Designed by GF55 Partners, the 14-story 1325 Jerome Avenue yields 187,000 square feet and 255 units. Residences are a mix of 82 studios, 92 one-bedrooms, 53 two-bedrooms, 27 three-bedrooms, and one live-in superintendent unit. There is also 26,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
Residents will have access to on-site supportive services provided by The Doe Fund, such as social case management, health care support, job preparedness, employment training, and substance use prevention services. Amenities include 24-hour professionally staffed security, energy-efficient appliances, a bike room, community room, and garden.
A select number of units is allocated to residents in need of supportive services through a New York State Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative award. Some units are also distributed to low-income families at 37 to 57 percent of the area median income via the NYC Housing Connect affordable housing lottery.
