Empire State Development, a New York State-funded economic development agency, is now seeking funding from the United States Department of Transportation to complete a new offshore wind staging and assembly port in Staten Island.

Referred to as the Arthur Kill Terminal Project, the site is located on the shores of Arthur Kill just below the Outerbridge Crossing which connects the Staten Island to New Jersey. The site will eventually span 32 acres and will facilitate offshore wind projects throughout the East Coast. The strategic location of the site is expected to reduce costs and time spent on installation and transportation for ongoing projects in the region.

“Utilizing underdeveloped land at the Arthur Kill Terminal to create a green energy port and bringing new, sustainable economic opportunities to the State advances Empire State Development’s mission to prepare New York’s economy for the future,” said Empire State Development CEO and executive deputy commissioner Kevin Younis. “With Arthur Kill Terminal as an offshore wind port, we will continue to serve as leaders in the fight against climate change, while promoting job growth and strengthening our manufacturing sector.”

Apollo Global Management Inc. recently signed on as the project’s exclusive private investor. The terminal is expected to be operational by 2025.

This is really great news, and a whole new industry for the state. They’ll be able to also build fully assembled floating wind turbines since the site isn’t impeded by the Outerbridge Crossing.

  2. I’m a FAN of this project. Good stuff.

  3. Consummate stupidity to help “solve” a “crisis” that is entirely imaginary. More windpower = more dead birds and more blackouts and enormous environmental devastation mining rare earth metals to build these monstrosities, all to chase the chimera of lowering the “carbon footprint” which is based on nothing but fraud. It’s really amazing how effective media gaslighting is to get people to believe in this nonsense, while Al Gore pockets millions and flies everywhere on his private jet. Because he really thinks it’s a “crisis.” Lol! America is a nation of rubes.

  4. The icons in the map look like Kenny from South Park
