Leasing officially launched this week for Vermella at Garwood Station, a new residential complex in Garwood, New Jersey. From Russo Development, the property introduces 296 apartments, 40,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenity spaces, and 19,500 square feet of retail.
The property is located at 450 South Avenue, a short walk north from the Garwood New Jersey Transit train station. The goal of the property is to attract upscale residents who rely on public transportation in and out of New York City, Jersey City, Newark, and other hubs of business and commerce in the area.
“Garwood is a wonderful, close-knit community with a walkable downtown and great access to a myriad of shopping, dining, and community services, as well as public transportation,” said Adam Pasternack, president of Russo Property Management. “Vermella complements the existing appeal of the neighborhood with a lifestyle-driven experience at an exceptional value.”
Vermella’s collection of residences range from studios up to two-bedroom apartments at monthly rents starting in the $2,300s. All homes are outfitted with fixtures and appliances, nine-foot ceiling heights, in-unit washers and dryers, and large kitchens. Many of the apartments also include a private balcony.
The property’s suite of outdoor amenities includes a landscaped courtyard with outdoor barbecue grills and lounge areas, a dog run, and an expansive pool and sundeck with outdoor grills and a movie wall. Indoor amenities include a club room with game tables and a media center, a multi-sport simulator, a business and co-working center, a fitness center, a private yoga and spin studio, a juice bar, and private dining space.
Occupancy at Vermella is scheduled for December 2021. Prospective residents are invited to tour the community grounds and model homes.
“This five-star amenity package greatly surpasses what is typically found in today’s suburban apartment landscape,” said Pasternack. “It is a hallmark of the Vermella brand and reflective of our commitment to elevate our residents’ lifestyle experience.”
The property’s retail component is expected to include a café, multiple restaurants, specialty fitness, and health and beauty providers. The developers have not announced which retailers are already confirmed or currently under negotiation.

There is nothing that says cheap more than a rendering that makes a Living space in an apartment with what looks like fake wood porcelain floor, cheap hanging lights, cabinets that don’t go to the ceiling, air conditioner hanging over the sofa, and a room you’d never want to spend the day in let alone your life. It’s not a home, its an income producing unit.
The exterior looks like it could be a welcome addition to the town landscape.
Jeez it’s not that bad. Take a pill, J. Such a constant Debbie downer you are. This is not supposed to be a Robert AM Stern masterpiece. It’s a $2300 rental building in Garwood. It’s a huge improvement.
One can take a critical view at the positive and less well thought out aspects of any project: as stated, the urbanistic qualities of this project look great: separation of commercial to residential above, landscaping, etc. I was most critical about the presentation of the interiors: even less than billionaires can live in homes that are decently thought through with materials that are considered….the rendering of the interior offers spaces and finishes that are less than acceptable – it’s possible to bring decent less expensive residences to the market. (Every RAMSA building is not a masterpiece and yes, the budgets reflect the targeted buyer)….The interiors presented all look like Home Depot displays and I’d suggest that we as architects and designers can offer better than that.
