Silverstein Properties Reveals Interactive Art Experience at 529 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Silverstein Properties has repurposed vacant commercial space on the ground floor of 529 Fifth Avenue in Midtown into an interactive public art space. Dubbed “Wonderland Dreams,” the exhibit invites patrons to explore an immersive 3D painting created in partnership with artist Alexa Meade and Catching Flights.

Drawing inspiration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the entire 26,000-square-foot venue is painted floor to ceiling, which the creative team hails as the largest continuous painting in the world. The space is divided into more than 20 distinct rooms with installations including hidden rose gardens, rooms with giant objects, and a “living gallery” that places guests within a picture frame. Guests will also have access to a wine and tea bar with themed small plates.

“We seek to create inspiring environments for all who enter our retail spaces, and Wonderland Dreams certainly fits the bill,” said Silverstein Properties vice president Harlan Strader. “We are thrilled to host such a creative installation in the heart of Midtown, as interactive art and retail are returning and New York City’s economy and tourism continue to recover post-pandemic.”

Wonderland Dreams will open its doors to the public on October 7. This announcement follows Silverstein Properties’ completion of a $20 million modernization of the building, completed in partnership with design studio Architecture + Information. The scope of work included a new tenant amenity floor with a café, an outdoor terrace with communal seating, a fireplace, and a yoga room.

The project also included revitalization of a storefront previously occupied by Best Buy.
