A single-story brick building that was once a church has been demolished at 142 Manhattan Avenue in Williamsburg, and this four-story development with dark brick will rise in its place. YIMBY noticed the rendering on the fence at the empty lot, which sits mid-block on Manhattan between Meserole Street and Montrose Avenue.
The new building will hold eight apartments spread across 5,500 square feet, for an average apartment of 687 square feet. Each floor will house two units, and two apartments on the third and fourth floors will have balconies.
Williamsburg-based Jacob Rubin is developing the project, and architect Diego Aguilera will design it. Construction is expected to finish next winter, according to signage.
The 2,500-square-foot property last changed hands in 2004 for only $140,000, when the Iglesia Pentecostal Soldados de Jesus sold it to an LLC. For the last few years, it was home to a very different kind of church—a concert venue known as “The Church of Electric Dirt.”
