Here’s a photo taken from the West Village of the new World Trade Center from yesterday, the 9th. The final steel is evident at the top, completing the basic shape of the actual tower. Construction has yet to begin on both the parapet and the spire, but they are both expected to be added by the end of summer.
The juxtaposition of old and new especially evident from vantage points like Greenwich Village. Most of the neighborhood’s building stock is the same as it was a century ago, and it’s important to remember that not all of Manhattan needs to be glitzy skyscrapers. The historic districts are just as important to New York’s character as the skyscrapers, if not more so.
