99 Washington Street has stood naked for months but the wait is finally over, and cladding has begun to rise. Rather than the blue zebra stripes pictured in renderings, the tower is being covered in white laminate, with red accents over the windows. The facade is clearly budget-oriented, but the cladding is heaps and bounds better than what could have been. The uniform whiteness makes the tower blend into its neighbors, and the red windows actually provide an interesting contrast when viewed from close-up.
When complete, the hotel – which is the world’s tallest Holiday Inn – will offer 400 guest rooms. Now that cladding is progressing, opening should be imminent, as 99 Washington has been topped-out for several months.
The new Holiday Inn is the first of several hotels that will soon open in the Financial District, though 99 Washington is the tallest of the bunch. Nearby, new hotels are coming to 215 Pearl, 6 Platt, and 133 Greenwich Street, with a bevy of other sites also in the mix.
