1522 First Avenue Wraps Up Construction on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Construction is coming to a close at 1522 First Avenue, a 30-story medical office building in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by Extell, the 449-foot-tall structure will yield 400,000 square feet of Class A office space, as well as retail space on the ground floor and cellar levels. The Hospital for Special Surgery will serve as the anchor tenant, occupying 200,000 square feet across the first eight stories of the building. The property is alternately addressed as 403 East 79th Street and is located between East 79th and East 80th Streets.

Maison 78’s Exterior Wraps Up at 1487 First Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Construction is nearing the finish line on Maison 78, a 35-story residential tower at 1487 First Avenue on the border of the Lenox Hill and Yorkville sections of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed and built by Carmel Partners, the 404-foot-tall structure will yield 146 rental units in one- to four-bedroom layouts. The project will also include 7,120 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a cellar level. The property is located at the southwest corner of First Avenue and East 78th Street.

Former Whitney Museum Building Designated Individual, Interior Landmark at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has unanimously designated the former Whitney Museum of American Art building at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as both an individual and interior landmark. Designed by Marcel Breuer and Associates and completed in 1966, the Brutalist-style structure served as the Whitney Museum’s home until 2014 and is now set to become Sotheby’s new global headquarters. The building is located at the corner of East 75th Street.

Weill Cornell Medicine Opens New Residence Hall on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

Weill Cornell Medicine has officially opened its new $260 million student residence hall, named the Feil Family and Weill Family Residence Hall, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The 16-story building, located at the northwest corner of East 74th Street and York Avenue, will house 272 students and includes 163 studio apartments, seven one-bedrooms, and 51 two-bedroom units, all with full kitchens.
