A new affordable housing project at 315 Linwood Street in East New York, Brooklyn, recently opened its doors to residents. Known as Linwood Park Apartments, the ten-story building contains 100 units of mixed-income housing, residential amenities, and supportive facilities for low-income and formerly homeless residents.
Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 144-20 Liberty Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. Located between Pinegrove Street and Inwood Street, the interior lot is closest to the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue-JFK subway station, serviced by the E, J, and Z trains. Lakhwinder Multani under the 144-20 LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Renderings have been revealed of 375 West 207th Street, also known as 3875 Ninth Avenue, a new mixed-use building in Manhattan’s Inwood neighborhood. Developed by Maddd Equities and designed by Aufgang Architects, the tower will rise 30 stories and eventually house 614 units.
When it comes to new development in New York City, one of the most prolific and notable of the current firms in existence is The Durst Organization, which previously led the construction of One World Trade Center in a public-private partnership with The Port Authority. Recently, new developments and re-zonings promising community and retail amenities alongside thousands of new affordable housing units have been stymied in Two Bridges and Inwood. Now, plans for substantial injections of the aforementioned components by the Olnick Organization at Harlem‘s Lenox Terrace have been attacked as well. Spearheaded by Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, the latest effort constitutes a contemporary example of redlining, and is an explicit violation of the National Civil Rights Act of 1968.
