21-Story Condominium Project Coming to 214 West 72nd Street, Upper West Side

Permits have been filed for a 21-story mixed-use building at 214 West 72nd Street, on the Upper West Side. The development will sit right on Broadway, the neighborhood’s main artery. The 72nd Street-Broadway Subway Station is just an intersection away, serviced by the 1, 2, and 3 trains. Further down, two avenues to the East is the 72nd Street station on Central Park, serviced by the A, B, and C trains. Manhattan-based SK Development will be responsible for the project.

Construction has wrapped on an affordable housing project at 1561 Walton Avenue, in The Bronx’s Concourse neighborhood. The 11-story building was a joint development by the Briarwood Organization and the Settlement Housing Fund (SHF), to create 59 affordable apartments for people with an income of 40% to 90% relative to the Area Median Income. The building was designed with the goal of fostering community within open spaces. Briarwood is also responsible for general contracting, while SHF is responsible for development.

Permits have been filed for an eight-story mixed-use building at 136-78 41^st Avenue, in Flushing, Queens. The construction is three blocks away from the Main Street Station, the last stop for the 7 train in Queens. Two blocks away is the Flushing-Main Street Train Station, serviced by the Port Washington line of the Long Island Rail Road. Developer Hui Chen will be responsible for the project.

Extraordinary NIMBY Corruption Alleged in Complaint Against Borough of Edgewater, New Jersey

Last month, YIMBY broke the story for a major site to be developed at 115 River Road, in Edgewater, New Jersey. While we initially reported the address at 615 River Road, that was incorrect; however, the developer of 615 River Road has now filed a lawsuit in Federal Court, alleging that a series of “corrupt transactions” led to the Borough’s vote to seize the property by eminent domain back in September, in a secret a bid to transfer the lot to developer Fred Daibes, who is behind 115 River Road.

Today, YIMBY has the reveal for renderings of a 15-story affordable housing development at 1932 Bryant Avenue, in The Bronx’s West Farms neighborhood. The site will yield 319 affordable apartments just two blocks away from the West Farms Square Subway Station, which is serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. The Bronx Zoo is also nearby, in the same park as the New York Botanical Garden. Second Farms Neighborhood Housing is responsible for the development.

The location is three blocks east of the Nostrand Avenue Subway Station, serviced by the G trains. The project is one of three conjoined sites, with IMC Architecture responsible for all three facades, and the buildings on 701 and 703.

The seven-story structure will include large windows and nine balconies, and what will likely be a private terrace on the top floor. The material used will probably be brick, with the possibility of metal paneling for accents. Three trees will be planted outside the building. Karl Fischer is responsible for the design.

The last time YIMBY checked on progress at Extell’s Central Park Tower, rising at 217 West 57th Street, glass installation had just begun, and the building was several floors above its cantilever. Three months later, the supertall’s superstructure is pushing towards its halfway point, and stands over 700 feet above the streets below. New renderings for the project have also appeared alongside its partially-launched website, giving a better idea of interiors, as well as the nighttime lighting scheme.
