After the City Council greenlighted One Vanderbilt’s rezoning in May, it was only a matter of time until developer SL Green pushed forward with construction of the 67-story commercial tower. And on Friday, they filed plans for the project, under the property’s main address at 51 East 42nd Street.
The Citizens Budget Commission released a report earlier this week that predicted the MTA wouldn’t be able to fully repair all 467 of its subway stations until 2067, with suggestions on how the transit authority could finance repairs faster. The group suggested raising money through public-private partnerships, which can be incredibly effective. But when they’re negotiated poorly, these partnerships can cost cities and states millions.
SL Green’s 1.6 million-square-foot office tower at One Vanderbilt Avenue will not only be a test case for the city’s ambitious Midtown East rezoning plan, but it’s one of the few times in recent memory that a private developer has agreed to finance and perform substantial construction work for the MTA.
The first condos hit the market last week at 550 Vanderbilt Avenue in the Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park development, and YIMBY has a few attractive renderings of the building’s amenity spaces and lobby.
The Turtle Bay outpost of AKA’s condo-style extended-stay residences is getting a revamp, and the company sent along renderings of the new interiors for the 21-story tower at 234 East 46th Street.
