Photos from Williams New York reveal a completed facade at 200 Amsterdam, a new 668-foot-tall condominium tower on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, the Art Deco-inspired facade, combines a mix of granite and limestone, ornate decorative panels, and dramatic oversized windows.
The tower comprises 112 condominiums and a full suite of health and wellness amenities. These include a 75-foot-long saltwater pool, a sauna and steam room, a fitness center curated by The Wright Fit, and a meditation room. Additional amenities include a library, communal lounges, a golf simulator, a pet spa, an outdoor terrace, a Lincoln Center Membership, and more.
SJP Properties and Mitsui Fudosan America are the developers behind the project. Interior spaces are designed by CetraRuddy.
As the tallest building on the Upper West Side, the building faced a great deal of backlash from neighborhood groups and members of the State Supreme Court. Opponents argued that permits issued by the New York City Department of Buildings were based on an incorrect interpretation of laws pertaining to the assemblage of partial tax lots with whole lots that facilitate the construction of taller, denser buildings. New York City’s Board of Standards and Appeals upheld the DOB’s position in three separate lawsuits filed by community groups.
Today, the developers are on the heels of a final, definitive victory in a years-long court battle that attempted to force the developer to lop off 20 floors that are already fully constructed.
Residents are expected to move in this fall.

Though it faced much controversy, I think 200 Amsterdam has become one of the greatest buildings to ever come to the Upper West Side. It’s really stunning.
Yes. we’re stunned. The jarring presence stuns us.
The only redeeming feature is the look along the first few floors, which is quite nice. Just don’t look up. Pretend the top 40 floors don’t exist.
This building is literally a few blocks from midtown and Time Warner. There are many buildings in the area almost as tall.
It is 2021. Land is very valuable. Real estate is about the highest and best use of that very expensive land. Grow up.
Nimbys aughta get laid and worry about real problems instead of tall buildings which aren’t even tall.
Oh, it’s about their property values isn’t it.
Why didn’t they just say so?
It’s about not allowing greedy developers to commit fraud just because the buildings Department is complicit. We have laws and regulations and they must be enforced within the intent of their passage/promulgation or changed by the proper authority, not ignored. This was a scam.
At least they didn’t cut it’s head off
Beautiful building. I hope more just like it come to the UWS.
