New Office Building Coming to Sixth Avenue and Bryant Park

Officially called “7 Bryant Park,” the new building will be built on the corner of Sixth Avenue and 40th Street. The site was formerly called “1045 Sixth Avenue,” and the building will be entirely office.

Rising 28 stories and containing 450,000 feet, the building will not be particularly noteworthy, and the design is definitely appropriate for what basically amounts to filler (filler being defined as anything that makes minimal impression beyond street-level),

The property is being jointly developed by Pacolet Millikin and Hines, while the tower was designed by Pei Cobb Freed and Partners. Groundbreaking is expected early next year.

There is a phenomenal amount of development currently underway in the vicinity of 7 Bryant Park. Two sites on 40th Street between 5th and 6th are currently awaiting development, while a new Hyatt is rising just to the north on 45th street.

The infill coming to the Bryant Park area is fantastic, given how the neighborhood looked only a decade ago. The Bank of America Tower at 42nd/6th was one of the major catalysts of change, and the area has trended much more upscale even with the departure of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. As long as touching the American Radiator Building–one of my personal favorites–remains forbidden, I eagerly anticipate the changes coming to the neighborhood.
