250 West 55th Street’s facade has now been completed, and in the dim November sun it really does look just like a tombstone. Sprouting 600 feet into the air, the glass exudes absolutely no warmth and the box is devoid of character. 250 West 55th Street epitomizes the soulless nature of contemporary architecture; the final product is almost too simple to be believable, more computer-rendering like than the actual renderings were.
Here’s an animation of the building from start to finish. Construction on the project only began in October of 2011, and construction is significantly ahead of schedule. Occupation is now slated the first or second quarter in 2014.
