Ocean View Manor Home for Adults, on Coney Island, is about to get a bit bigger, according to an alteration permit filed with the Department of Buildings yesterday.
The expansion comes after years of planning, including community board meetings and an application with the Department of City Planning to exceed the density normally allowed for the site, in addition to a number of other more minor special permits.
The facility, which caters to adults with mental illnesses, is seeking to expand its current 39,000 square feet of space to 51,000 square feet. The enlargement, however, would be horizontal rather than vertical –
the building would remain five stories and 55 feet tall. The number of beds at Ocean View would rise from 176 to 200.
The project is located at 3010 West 33rd Street, between Surf Avenue and the Boardwalk. Landow and Landow Architects is responsible for the design.
