The former flagship Toys “R” Us store closed last December, leaving vacant the three-story, 160,000-square-foot building at 1530 Broadway, located between West 44th and 45th streets in Times Square. Since then, work has been underway to renovate the property for its new phase of life in retail. An update on the renovation work can be seen in a Curbed NY report. The 44-foot-tall property will eventually be anchored by Gap and Old Navy, which will each lease 31,000 square feet. The interiors are seeing an extensive gut-demolition and rebuilding. The atrium that once showcased the previous toy store’s Ferris wheel will be replaced with 25,000 square feet of floor space. Chipman Design Architecture is the architect of record. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2017.
