The entirety of Hudson Yards is buzzing with activity. Each week seems to bring additional superlative announcements from the various corners of the neighborhood, with One Manhattan West, 35 Hudson Yards, and 15 Hudson Yards all rising above ground level over the past month. YIMBY now has fresh renderings of the last building thanks to Related, and the Diller Scofidio + Renfro/Rockwell Group-designed tower is now on its way to a 910-foot pinnacle.
The design has seen notable changes since initial conception, but revisions compared to the most recent materials seem nonexistent. A relatively streamlined base will taper into four attached tubes by the time the tower reaches its clover-like peak, and the new look makes it clear that this will be echoed by the rooftop at 35 Hudson Yards, which will crest in a similar but slightly more angular arrangement.
At 910 feet in height, 15 Hudson Yards will stand taller than any residential building built prior to One57. That also underscores just how dramatic New York’s supertall boom is, considering One57 was only completed in 2014; when 15 Hudson Yards opens in late 2018, it may barely scrape the top 10 of the city’s tallest residential buildings.
Continued development of Hudson Yards will ultimately lead to new towers both to the north (at the already-unveiled 35 Hudson Yards) and to the west, though no specific design for the Western Yards buildings have yet been confirmed. Nevertheless, 15 Hudson Yards is likely to always retain substantial prominence when viewed from the south, considering the southern side of 30th Street is newly or nearly built-out.
YIMBY also has a look at the lobby and and a close-up exterior shot of the base, which will be integrated with the Hudson Yards Shed. The residential entry to the tower will be wrapped in masonry, which will yield to the glassy tower up above, while also abutting The Shed’s latticed facade.
The residential units at 15 Hudson Yards will primarily be comprised of 285 market-rate condominiums, from one to four bedrooms, starting at $1.85 million. There will also be 106 affordable units, likely rentals.
