The reinforced concrete structure of 140 West 24th Street is nearing the halfway mark in its rise to an imminent 45-story and 416-foot pinnacle. Gene Kaufman Architect is designing the new hotel, and Sam Chang is developing the 142,949 square foot structure. Besides the 508 hotel rooms, there will be a main lobby, a dining area, and kitchens on the cellar and first floors. The site is located in Chelsea, between Sixth and Seventh Avenue.
Recent photos from the vicinity show the tower making its way into the neighborhood skyline, and rising over the surrounding buildings.
Construction has been able to progress at a fast pace thanks to the regular pattern of columns and floor slabs.
This will be noticeably taller when topped-out, and will have perfect views of Lower Manhattan and the Empire State Building. The northern and southern elevations will have a narrow and tight grid of windows that will run up the entire height of the building. Two water towers will sit side by side to each other above the flat roof parapet.
The 1 train can be found on Seventh Avenue while the F, M and PATH train are located on Sixth Avenue.
A completion date for 140 West 24th Street has been posted on the green construction fence with a target date of Spring 2020. The building should most likely top out by the end of the summer.

david pardon me using your space
remarkably banal
Love it.. it’s remarkable banal and 100% fit under new “glass skyscraper ban” by Herr Bill Der Blasio’s best architect!!!
HERR?? DER??
I love it..Its a revolutionary building
100% fit under “new green deal” by Herr Bill Der Blasio’s best architect!!!
If it’s a green building, they aren’t advertising it as such
I have a stunning view of the Empire State Building from my windows that will be completely lost. So I don’t have any good feelings toward the intruder.
Another abomination from Gene Kaufman, NYC’s worst architect. We should pressure/shame the hotel brands (Hyatt in this case) to not give this hack any more work.
Love it or hate it, built by Herr Bill Der Blasio’s best architect and fit 100% for “glass skyscraper ban” by HBDB’s own kitchen!!!
Herr Bill Der Blasio and AOC will be most honorable guests of this brilliant building of socialist future of America!!! Love it or Hate it, or Vote For MAGA 2020 and Beyond!!!
NYC worst architect just another Big FU for all of us, and most importantly for our Great Skyline!!!
Who can said that we cannot built more banal and uglier????
The suggested name of building “From Communist Architecture with Love”…
Love it or hate it, Socialist Future of America, or Don’t Vote for Socialist Communist Demon Rats anymore if you like to preserve New York City as Great Destination for anyone who love live, work and play happy life in our Greatest City in this Planet!!! Except Socialist parasites who want to ruin it and infested our Greatest skyline with banal buildings like this one!!!
Actually, Gene’s buildings are the most “capitalist” of them all. Developers make the most when projects are cheap to construct (his are), and people staying at hotels prefer new properties in good locations. Most travelers don’t care about what a property looks like from the outside as long as the rooms are OK. Gene’s aesthetic (if you can even call it that) ensures the developer gets the highest return, and are a huge FU to everyone else (which really isn’t one of the core principles of socialism).
RJ, well thought out comment…what’s it doing here?
Call Hyatt corporate office phone number and tell them that next time they must demand better designed building built in NYC for their next hotel in NY.
The Most Banal Bland Ugly structure ever designed and built for Chelsea neighborhood and NYC ever!!!
Jack, you’re on a roll here.
Got to agree that KUfman’s work is just miserable. The opportunity to build big in the greatest city on earth ought to be a career highlight. But developers keep going back to the same schlubs over and over again, ang getting the same krap.
Is there a contest among architects to see who can build the ugliest building?!
This is atrocious and reflects the Communist origins of the builder ….from China. I had only recently heard of this “kaufman”….His work is visual AIDS.
Chang and Kaufman always bring out the worst in each other.
If Gene Kaufman shows us anything, it’s that anyone can be called an architect.
I’m not a fan of Kaufman’s work but equating architecture and its function to pure aesthetics is wrong. Utility, code and zoning compliance, maximizing usable square footage and managing construction administration / all other consultants are just a few of the things that the architects are responsible for.
the ugliest most boring bland building I have ever seen. In 100 years I hope this one is demolished.
God, this is so ugly. How can someone do so much harm to the greatest city on earth? Than you’re just evil.
